Geraci Siculo is a little village next to Castelbuono around 25 km (16 miles) further south into the Madonie mountains. Siculo means Sicilian and normally
we just call the village Geraci. It is located around 1100 m (3300 feet) o.s.l. which means cold and frosty weather with snow during a couple of
months in the wintertime.
There are around 2000 inhabitants in the village which holds newer parts with houses in nowadays styl and the antique historic centre dated back to the period of Saracen dominion which is visible when you see the narrow streets and lanes. South in the village there is the remains of the castle accomodation for the Ventimilgia- family when arrived to the area in the 13th century. Geraci is nice, cosy and interesting and the bars serve good food.
A natural water supply from the Geraci mountains has founded a company who supply high quality bottled water to supermarkets, grocers, bars etc. The brand is "Geraci". Otherwise the main income is from farming, cattle, sheep and goats.
The founder of the chain of supermarkets, "Conad", all over Italy is born and bred in Geraci.
