Enna is the main city of the provins Enna in the middle of Sicily - the only provins without access to the sea. The city Enna is placed 970 m (3230 feet) o.s.l. and this strategic important position has caused many battles between tribes and people wanting the dominion.
As one of the few settlements Enna is not settled by incommers but by one of the original tribes, the siculis, and is dated to have been founded before 1200 BC.

Sperlinga is a particular village. In previous times people lived in caves made into the cliff and the basement of the Sperlinga Castle is a cave. Around 10 caves are still inhabitated today.
Regarding documents dated 1082 AC a group of colonists from North-Italy arrived on a decret from count Robert for the purpose of defence of the castle. These people brought their hometown dialect and still you hear the special Gallo-Italien dialct in Sperlinga.
